Heute geht’s noch viel weiter in den Osten als letzte Woche, und zwar nach Taiwan! Der Fotograf den ich euch heute hier vorstellen möchte beschäftigt sich mit einem Gebiet der Fotografie die ich ebenfalls sehr faszinierend finde, der Streetfotografie. Sein Name ist Brian Quentin Webb.

When and how did you get into photography?

I first got in to photography when I got my hands on a Pentax K1000 when I was about 14. Shortly thereafter, my stepmother let me borrow her Minolta X-370…it was never returned. After my parents divorced, my mom would take my younger sister and I to the Venice Beach boardwalk on the weekends to „People Watch“ as a means of inexpensive entertainment, which what got me in to street photography, specifically.


Who is your photographic role model?

I love the work of Mary Ellen Mark, especially her Indian Circus and Americana series. Even though it’s not pure street (it’s more like street portraiture) but her images are very culturally revealing.



What do you do when you are note photographing/retouching?

I’m an elementary school teacher.


What is your favorite camera?

Film: Voigtlander Bess a R2a or my Holga 120 WPC
Digital: Olympus digital Pen E-P2


Which is your favorite film?

B&W: Tri-X in 35mm, HP5+ in 120 or sheets
Color: Fuji NPH


Retouching images yes/no?

With street photography I do very little post-processing outside of converting to B&W if appropriate and the required contrast adjustments thereafter. If I’m shooting portraits I Photoshop as much as necessary since there isn’t an expectation of reality there.

Es geht international weiter. Heute geht es in unser Nachbarland Polen. Der Fotograf den ich euch heute vorstellen möchte nennt sich im Netz bagnino und auch wenn das nichts neues ist, ich habe ihn ebenfalls über deviantART gefunden. ;)


Real name? Robert Lubanski


When and how did you get into photography?

I was 12 y old if I good remember, it was mountain camp and the film camera was Smena.


Who are your photographic role models?

Newton, Robert Capa, Paolo Roversi, Bob Carlos Clarke, Demarchelier, Linbergh, in Poland: Zosia Zija and ukrainian photographer Ruslan Lobanov last time. I like many russian alive photographers.


What do you do when you are note photographing/retouching?

Graphic designer, old cars rebuilding, motorbikes.


What is your favorite camera?

Mamiya RZ – but it is too big, now 5dmk2 (worst than mk1) with 85 1.2, but now I’m owner of Hasselblad 503 cw and maybe in future this one will be my favorite (size, weight, contrast)

Retouching images yes/no? Yes, more or less but always yes.

Wer hat’s erfunden? Nein, die Schweizer haben die Fotografie nicht erfunden,aber der Spruch fällt zumindest mir als erstes immer ein wenn ich an die Schweiz denke. ;) Damit wisst ihr auch schon woher der Fotograf stammt den ich euch heute vorstellen möchte.  Und los geht’s.

Wie und wann kamst Du zur Fotografie?

Vor ca. 5 Jahren wie die Jungfrau zum Kind. Eine Kamera in die Hand genommen und seither nicht mehr in der Lage, diese weg zu legen.


Wer sind Deine fotografischen Vorbilder?

Jeanloup Sieff, David LaChapelle und Rankin



Was machst Du wenn Du nicht Deinem Hobby nachgehst?

Ich gehe gerne gut Essen, ins Kino, treffe mich mit Freunden und geniesse meine Freizeit mit meiner Freundin.

Canon EOS 1Ds und EOS 5D (die alte)

Freitags Fotografen Feature – FFF #9 (NSFW!)

Heute stelle ich euch, wieder mal, einen Fotografen vor den ich auf deviantART entdeckt habe. Thorsten Jankowski aus Braunschweig, er ist unter dem Nick Bela Borroso auch in anderen Communities unterwegs. Sein Schwerpunkt liegt ganz klar auf der klassischen künstlerischen Aktfotografie, dabei setzt der die Models immer gekonnt in Szene und zeigt uns interessante Formen.

Was machst Du wenn Du nicht Deinem Hobby nachgehst und wie kamst Du zur Fotografie?

Ich bin Industriedesigner und arbeite aber bei einem Autohersteller im Marketing/IT/Neue Medien. Ich fotografiere schon seitdem ich 14 oder 15 bin und seit 2004 auch im Studio. Die Spezialisierung kam aus der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit Formen und Körpern.


Wer sind Deine fotografischen Vorbilder?

Zu viele um sie aufzuzählen. Alle die gute Bilder machen haben meine Anerkennung.


Lieblingskamera?

Meine Kamera ist die EOS 5d Mark II, die lasse ich auch als Lieblingskamera gelten. Lieblingsobjektive sind Zeiss-Objektive.

nur digital

Bildbearbeitung ja oder nein?

Bildbearbeitung ist ein wichtiger Teil meiner Arbeiten. Ich sehe Photoshop und Fineart Drucker als moderne Dunkelkammer.

Freitags Fotografen Feature – FFF #8

Heute wird es international und englisch im FFF. Einer meiner Lieblingsfotografen auf deviantART hat sich bereit erklärt mir und euch kurz Rede und Antwort zu stehen. Sein Nickname auf dA ist Talkingdrum und er kommt aus England. Er hat sich nicht sehr spezialisiert, so finden sich in seiner Gallerie Bilder von seinen Reisen, Landschaftsaufnahmen, Porträts und Aktaufnahmen ohne viel Schnickschnack. Viel Spaß beim entdecken seiner tollen Arbeiten.

When and how did you get into photography?

My father was really into photography and I grew up in a household with a studio and darkroom. Although I didn’t use the studio I spent a lot of time in the darkroom. I got my first SLR when I was about 5 or 6 years old.

Who is your photographic role model?

It’s hard to name just one but I have been really inspired by Sally Mann. When I was at college I really liked Edward Weston (and still do).


What do you do when you are not photographing/retouching?

I’m a musician by trade so that takes up a lot of time. I’ve just got my studio back (music) after a 9 month refurb so I’ve not been as active on the photography front as I normally am as I’m spending a great deal of time in there catching up.

What is your favorite camera?

My favorite camera to use is my Bronica S2a but it has focusing issues that I can’t seem to cure so it tends to get side lined for my Hasselblad.

film/digital/both?

I shoot on both but a the moment I much prefer shooting on film. I have D700 which is no slouch but when I shoot models I always shoot a combination of film and digital. When I look at the results the film wins every time. There is something much more beautiful with film, especially in its tonal range.

If film, which is your favorite film?

I like Ilford Delta 400 (or HP5). I like to see a little grain as it gives an image „bite“.

Retouching images yes/no?

Yes I spend a lot of time retouching. I don’t look at digital retouching any differently from working in a darkroom where you’re dodging, burning, toning, touching up and doing a host of other things to manipulate an image. It’s just so much easier to do it digitally. My personal feeling is that whatever is done to an image, the processing work should not be evident. It needs to be done with subtelty and in such a way that it doesn’t show, unless of course the manipulation is part of the art as in adding textures and tones etc. I think it takes great skill to „process“ digital images well.
